A hydraulic suction dredge was used to remove cattails and accumulated sediment from a small tributary of the Thornapple River.

Approximately 10,000 tons of sediment were pumped to an upland sump to dewater.  Once dewatered, the sediment was transported offsite and the site was restored.

The combination of hydraulic suction dredging and open pit dewatering made this project possible.  Oftentimes, space constraints in residential areas can be overcome by innovative designs and competent dredging contractors.
