One of the most challenging aspects of any
dredging project is the containment and dewatering of dredged sediments.
In order to assure that a dredging project is carried out in the most
timely and cost-effective manner possible, project-specific criteria
must be carefully evaluated prior to the development of a sediment
management plan.
Geobag Confinement and Dewatering Click photos to zoom Geobags allow sediment to be contained in relatively small areas while providing for rapid passive dewatering. Coupled with the appropriate use and maintenance of erosion control measures, geobags allow dredging projects to occur on sites which otherwise would not support dewatering. Traditional site constraints such as buildings, trees and topography can often be maintained or temporarily modified and restored.
Geobag Confinement with Open Dewatering Click photo to zoom In situations where impervious surfaces such as pavement will not allow the construction of traditional diked containment through earthwork, geobags can often be used to establish the containment area perimeter. Sediments discharged to the interior of this area can then passively dewater prior to being transported offsite. Experienced staff can remove the sediment without damage to the pavement.
Open Pit Dewatering Click photo to zoom Projects in residential areas often lack adequate space for spoil containment and dewatering. Under the right circumstances, construction of a fenced open-pit can allow the project to proceed. © All photos and text on this webpage are the property of Restoration Dredging Inc.
